Nothing gives me more the feeling of summer than the first Baetis rhodani hatches of the season. This little fella can really bring on some good feeding frenzy among the trouts. There are several species that is considered as the Blue Winged Olive throughout the world, but here above the arctic circle, and Norway in general, it's the Baetis rhodani that's synonymous with Blue Wing Olive. My method of tying the dun imitation of the rhodani. The techniques and construction of the fly is the same as I have shown in the step-by-step tutorial of the Autumn Dun.

Hook: Standard dry fly hook size 14 to 18
Thread: Olive
Wings: Starling or bluejay primary feather quills, or duck
Tail: Blue dun hackle fibers
Body: Turkey biot dyed olive
Hackle: 3 turns of rooster hackle in natural dun color
Thorax: Hare's ear dubbing
